Spoken Hindi: The homework is to revise the meanings of the words and come prepared to have shopping conversations. (the scenarios will be outlined in the class)
Culture: HomeWork: I asked the students to write down about how they plan to celebrate Divali: What they plan to eat, wear, who they will pray, what time, how they decorate their house (candles, Rangoli – with what and how is it made), when is it celebrated (based on lunar calendar) etc. Any information that is specific to your family would be great to share. This could also be a one page essay but I will leave it up to the students and their parents how they want to discuss this. The idea is for them to look at the specifics of the festival so that come Divali they are able to understand the whys of the various things you do in your family. There will be a small discussion on that. Homework can be done either in English or Devanagri (Devanagri is preferred). But reallly whatever the student does happily. Also, students can directly email the homework to me (scan it or type it in a document). Parents are also requested to discuss everything discussed in class for reinforcement.

Last week’s Homework: I received homework from Isha, Anushka, Rishi and Samin. There were some very good write ups and it was exactly what I was looking for. I plan to bring this up in the next class, project it and go through it in the class.
Homework for next class: The next culture class will now only happen in first week of November and so the children who have not sent in their essays can do so. I had asked the children to write ten ragas and what time of the day they belong to. This is a great site to find this information: http://www.itcsra.org Also, parents can talk about whatever has been discussed in the last 3 classes to reinforce the subject and have the kids ask questions next time. | | |

Parents or teachers may write the original but only students must write the translation. Note that the mp3 version is now attached in the "Attachments" section.
