| | Hindi: We discussed all the vyanjans and the requirement of writing them in sequence. Completed page 71 of the binder in the class. Then we did an exercise on unscrambling the words to make new words such as: नमक, मगर, बतख, खटमल,ऐनक, ऊपर, इधर,उधर,बर्तन, etc. Please refer to their notes for more words. This exercise will be in the final test paper. I'll be doing more of these words for practice. All the words without matras will be part of the test. Spoken: We continued with our review. We practiced translation from English to Hindi using Semester 2 Spoken Hindi Review. We will be continuing with that in the next class as well. We are now starting a review of the lessons so that kids will be ready for the Final exam. Today we reviewed Lessons 1 to 4. We did this by participating in a mock phone conversation with “grandma”. Then we played a quiz game by forming 2 teams and having kids match verbs to pictures. The lesson plan and game is on skydrive. Culture: Kids practised the song "Insaf ki dagar Pe bacchon Dhikhao Chal Ke" for the annual day celebration. Also, please help them prepare and practice the speech on the character (Leader/king) they have been given in the last class. With this they have officially finished learning all the vyanjans. After the vyanjans kids were introduced with Matras (the most important chapter of Hindi language). Now they are ready to read and write Hindi. I'll be revising wth them all the vyanjans and two/three letter words to read and write.
Spoken: This week students played snake & ladder ( सांप और सीढ़ी ) game and learned to make Hindi sentences to move up the chain or be stuck at the same place. They did well and had lot of fun. Culture: The Annual Day of Gurukul is approaching. Sudhaji our Lead Parent Volunteer and Manojji dicussed with kids about their interest for the Annual day celebrations. They came up with the idea of a brief speech in Hindi on our national leaders and Great kings of India. Each kid is assigned a name of either the leader or the king on which they have to prepare the speech and to dress up in the matching attire. Kindly practice with them during the break. I'll also be doing the revision with them in the class. Spoken: We did a review of what we have learnt in the past few classes around Time (Samay/Vakt), Present Continuous form of verb, Aapko Kya Chihiye, Aapko Kya Karna Hai, Ke Saath (With), Ke Paas (Beside), Ke Pass (Possessive Form - Has). We formed 2 teams and asked each team to translate some complex sentences from English to Hindi. The sentences we used are in the attached document (TimeRelatedSentences). Kids had a lot of fun competing as teams. Also flash cards for Time related words were given out. Please have your child cut them and put in Ziploc and use for practice. Culture: Kids reviewed some previous lessons like Geography of India, Foods of India, Spices etc. They identified various foods being made in different regions of India and discussed their favorite desserts. So we revised all swars and vyanjan from k to nya, colors etc. We also studied some two letter words comprised of these swars and vyanjan such as Aag, khaao, chakh, ang etc. Spoken: We revised some of the exercises which has been covered so far in the class. The second video on the page is a short monologue, where a boy named Ishaan is telling about himself, his school, his hobbies (basketball and swimming), and his brother (who plays soccer and plays the piano). The third video on the page shows two boys, Ishaan and Aryan, having a short conversation in Hindi as one welcomes the other as a guest in his home and offers him juice and cookies. For the evaluation, kids will be asked to translate into English what is being said in the video, and they will also be asked specific questions (in Hindi) about what is being said in the video. Mid term evaluations are scheduled for January 12. The FINAL date for the evaluations will be announced soon. For the level two expectations please see the attached document. We expect the children to master these topics to be ready for the test. The test will be prepared by the Hindi Committee and the same test will be used across the board for the level. The student report cards will be given to parents the week after the test and PTA meeting will be arranged the week following that for feedback.

Except two or three kids others were not prepared for the test. And the excuse they gave me was they were very busy with other activities. Regular practice is the key for learning a new language. And I appreciate the efforts of those parents who worked hard with their kids for the test. We did this in small groups using flash cards. - We also played a game of charades with kids guessing the actions in full Hindi sentences. Hindi- Kids took test on Swars and I have reviewed the test papers and given it back to them. Please sign the test papers and send it back with them next week. I’ll consider that they performed well being their first test in 2F. The highest score in the class was 23 out of 30. Next week I'll be discussing with them the test paper and start Vyanjan (consonants)...K, Kha...etc.
Spoken- We revised the vocabulary learnt so far. - We also learnt prepositions for Up, Down, Front, Back, Inside, Outside. - We played a translation game forming 2 teams to convert sentences between Hindi and English. - We also played a "snakes and ladders" style game to practice our speaking skills, which the kids enjoyed.
Culture- We reviewed the facts about Gandhiji. - We talked about Navratri and vijayadashmi and the stories behind these festivals. | | | | | | | Hindi --I am the new Hindi teacher (Shalini Talwar) for 2F moved from 2B. I am really excited to be their teacher. All the kids really showed interest in the class and it was fun teaching them. I have a request that please get your kids one wide ruled composition notebook (I personally don't like loose sheets so please prefer a bind notebook) . This will not be provided from Gurukul. For the whole year we will be practicing swar and Vyanjan in this notebook and kids can also take notes in the class in the same notebook. Hopefully kids will be getting their workbooks next week. We reviewed Swars (A, Aa.......Ang, Ah). Some of the students learnt new swar--Re as they didn't read it last year. They also listened to the story of Dhruva Maharaj during their snack time.

Culture - Today we took a journey into our past. We learnt of our ancient civilization the Indus Valley Civilization. The children were introduced to new words "history" "archaeologist" "A.D" "B.C" and "civilization". - Kids made a rakhi as their craft project today.
