| | Hello Everyone, Thanks to Monica shah, Disha's mom for helping in the class this week. This week in Hindi class, we learned two new letters Ta and Tha. We also worked on matching the picture to it's sound. In culture, we learned about different kinds of dresses worn by men and women in India. Homework for coming week: Trace and write letters Ta and Tha. Activity page No.17 and 24. In some of the work book the pg No. are different. The activity is, finding the path. I also wanted to mention to the parents, Kids should not be spending more than 30 minutes for homework. If you think it is taking them a lot of time to trace and write letters, let them finish half of the page instead of full. Children should not be frustrated learning Hindi. Please let us know if you have any questions, concerns or suggestions. Thanks, Deepa Kacharia. Nisha Gidwani.

| | Namaste Parents, This Sunday for Gurukul the kids learnt new letters Da & Dha. Homework is to complete these pages in the binder For culture kids learnt about Diwali and also got to decorate beautiful diyas. Sheel & Nila did a great job talking about brother and family respectively. We forgot to announce the Vishesh Vidyarthi for the next class. But would like Aneesh Harwalkar & Meera Kalhan to prepare something for the class on Nov 21. There will not be a class next week as Gurukul Diwali is going to be held on Nov 13. Details for the event are as follows : · Date: 13NOV 2010
· Time: 7.00pm- 10.30pm
· Venue: Hazen High School, Renton
· There will be kid’s activities, Dandiya, Bollywood dance and snacks
We have noticed that a lot of the previous letters which were taught in class have not been completed in the binders of many students. Please make your kids complete their binders as it will be difficult for them to remember the letters if they havent practiced it. We teachers can help them learn Hindi only once a week but you as parents can work more on it at home. We do understand that everyone has a time crunch but as we all know learning a new language takes patience and lots of practice. Some of the pages of the binders are not organized properly. We apologize for the mix ups but we cannot reorganize them in the limited time we have at class. Please take a few moments to check your kids binders and reorganize them as it will save them and us precious time at Gurukul. A lot of the kids asked to see the youtube animation videos depicting Ramayan. As the whole thing would take a few hours we could not comply with their request. Please show your kids the story of Ramayan so that they can be more knowledgable as to why festivals like Navratri & Diwali are celebrated. See you at the Diwali party. Regards Nisha Gidwani Deepa Kacharia

| | Namaste Parents, Hope you are enjoying the holidays. I have not been keeping well and so could not mail to you earlier. Last Gurukul class for Hindi we did revision. The kids mostly know the beginning letters but tend to get confused in the latter ones. We are going to have an evaluation on Jan 16. So please help them review letters from अ to ध. On Dec 12 the class was taken by Deepaji and she made the kids do these letters as well as showed them how some words are formed. The homework for that week was to do all the letters twice and also write the words twice. A request to parents whose kids did not attend the class, please make your kids do the homework also as it is just practice for them. The list of the words are : अंग - body parts आओ - come आग - fire आज - today एक - one ईख - sugarcane अंक - numbers आठ - eight चख - taste जग - world घट - less आई - came गई - gone आजा - come on Hope the Hindi alphabets are clear as this is the first time I am trying this feature out. Please let me know if it was not understandable. For culture we learnt about 'Foods of India'. We had a great time with the presentations as all the kids wanted to participate and some of them actually tried their Hindi by making up the presentation at the spot. It did lead to delay in leaving the kids for which I apologize. There will be no class on the Jan 2nd. The next class will be held on Jan 9th. Wishing U guys a very happy new year. | | Namaste Parents, Last week we had a test in class to evaluate the kids. All of the kids have done a good job. Some kids even remembered stuff that was taught last year which was nice to see. We also did a crossword puzzle on Republic Day as well as a craft relating to Foods of India. Next 2 classes we are going to have the Parent Teacher Conferences. We have divided the time slot as 10 min per kid. We request the parents to show up 10 min before their assigned time as conferences are going to be held back to back. Some of the parents have already signed up. For those who havent yet signed up please check the sheet and send us 2 time slots as your preferences. We will try our best to accomodate you. Please let us know ur preferences by Thurs so that we send out the final sheet by end of Fri. Also for these 2 weeks the class will be held by the parent volunteers. We will provide the material well in advance. The material will be fairly simple and we will also provide some activities for kids so it should not be very tough on you if this would be your first Hindi teaching experience. The current parent volunteers signed up for the next 2 classes are : Jan 23 2011 Sushma Verma Jan 30 2011 Malavika Shailendra Gujarati We do require more volunteers for these classes (atleast 3 per class). So please help us out by volunteering. Regards Nisha Gidwani Deepa Kacharia

| | Namaste Parents, Today for Hindi we did the letters श ष स ह. For homework the kids have to complete these letters in their binders. Some of the kids did not finish their homework for last week. Please make them complete their homework every week. We are very careful not to give anything which will take more than 20 minutes. If you have lost the email just check the class website at : http://www.gurukul-wa.org/2010/classes/2C/default.aspx For spoken Hindi we had our 2 Vishesh Vidyarthi speak up. I tried to make the kids try their verbal skills while we were learning Hindi. The Vishesh Vidyarthi for next class are Prakriti Shukla, Devi Bharani & Ishaan Mirchandani. For culture we learnt about the dances of India. I showed the kids some videos to make them understand the differences between the various dance forms. I could manage to show them only small clips of the videos. If you wish to show them the videos I have included them in this mail. A couple of the videos were just an example of how Bollywood incorporates the dance forms. They then made a Kathakali mask as craft. Thanks to Sonali Gujarati for volunteering today. Mukesh Shahi will be the volunteer for the next class on Apr 10. Next Sunday we have our spring break and the next class will be held on Apr 10. Apr 10 is also when we begin our Spirit month. | | Namaste parents, We had a fun class on Sunday. It was great to see all the kids dressed up with the sports spirit. One of the kids even wore knee pads and got cricket bat which was fun to see. We had kids dressed up as PT Usha, Badminton players etc. For Hindi we revised all the letters learnt so far by playing a game. The kids also learnt a new letter श्र . This letter is not included in the binder so we made the kids write it on a page. Please make your kids write this letter 20 times as homework. For culture we took the kids outside as an activity for the topic learnt last week "Games of India". The kids had lots of fun learning and playing Indian games like Pitthu & Khokho. For spoken Hindi they learnt differences between Ye & Woh (this & that). Also how the gender change changes some masculine letters and doesnt change feminine ones i.e using Mera for singular & Mere for plural while Meri remains the same whether using for singular or plural object. It would be nice if you could give them more examples of this and make them practice more at home. Thanks to Sumita Verma for volunteering. The volunteer for next week is Par Dudley. There are no volunteers lined up for the month of May. Please let us know who will be able to volunteer for the first 4 Sundays in May. The last Sunday we have a Memorial Day holiday. Gurukul Annual Day is to be celebrated on June 6. We will be doing the presentation in class. There is no potluck this year. Some refreshments will be served at the end downstairs. We will start working on annual day presentation this Sun onwards. Please help your kids remember the lines at home. May 22nd is going to be another evaluation. Gurukul is a skill based organization, when your child is ready he/she will be promoted, otherwise the promotion will lead to de-motivation and frustration. So your kid will be promoted based on how much he/she knows about the language covered this year. Also summer workbooks will be distributed on that day. WORKBOOK COMPLETION IS MANDATORY FOR STAYING IN THE RECOMMENDED LEVEL. This Sunday the kids have to dress up as an Indian Icon. They can dress up as a famous personality they like. For eg Nehru, Gandhiji, Sharukh Khan, Aishwariya Rai, Tendulkar etc. Regards Nisha Gidwani Deepa Kacharia | | |
