Cultural session was focused on Christmas and how we celebrate this festival in India.
| | | | | | | Namaste parents,
This week our main focus was spoken Hindi. All the kids did a great job in the last week's home work. So they all got to read the three sentences in Hindi about their favorite fruit and the rest of the kids were supposed to translate that in English.
We discussed our routine of the day..like subah uttkar daant brush karte hai, phir naasta karte hai...etc.
Thanks
Sheetal

• Review of last week topic - Birds
• Covered fruits in Hindi. Few were easy as kids were familiar, but many words were still new in their vocabulary.
Spoken Hindi:
- We had a little quiz for our spoken Hindi session. The class was divided into 3 teams. Each team was shown a picture and answer the question in Hindi. Many kids did really well. But it is still one area where we need to focus more. I still see kids struggling making short sentences even though they remember individual words in vocabulary and shy away from talking. We need parents help here!! Please try to converse with kids in Hindi as much as you can. Even if they don’t speak, they absorb words.
Cultural:
• Today’s topic was Guru Nanak Jayathi. He was the founder of the religion Sikhism in Punjab, which involves teachings from both Hindu and Muslim religion. He was the first Guru out of the ten gurus of Sikhism who created the holy book "Guru Granth sahib". Guru Nanak's birthday is celebrated for three days. On the first day the holy book is read, on second a procession is organized and on the final day after the morning prayers a huge "Langar", community lunch, is organized in the Gurudwaras followed by lots of dancing. The famous dance of Punjab done mostly by men is called Bhangra while the dance done by women is called Giddha.
In activity today we made men puppets doing Bhangra. Kids had fun cutting the two halves, coloring them and then joining them by a pin to make it a puppet. | | | | | | | This class was mostly a revision of previous lessons. We reviewed parivaar, ginti, jangali/paltoo jaanwar.
The kids also did small exercises to reinforce what was taught in the classroom. | | | | | | | Namaste parents,
This week in Hindi class we learned about various kinds of birds "Pakshi" in Hindi. Please refer to your child's folder for the complete list.
In the Cultural session, we talked about Diwali and made Pooja thali with a mitti diya. | | | | | | | Hindi:
- revised ginti.
- Learned about the difference between paaltu janwar and jangali jaanwar.
- learned some domestic animals in hindi, gaay, kutta, billi, chuha, bhed, bakri, gadhaa, suwar etc...
- kids did a classroom exercise and wrote the colors along with animal names in hindi.
Cultural:
- Learned the Dhaandiya steps.
- Read a story about 'Chatur chidiya' and how she saved her life. | | | | | | | Namaste,
this week, in hindi we learned ginti (counting) from ek se pandrah. We played some games with numbers.
Cultural - Read a story about vijaydhashmi and make Ravan puppet. | | | | | | | Namaste parents,
This week in Hindi, we briefly reviewed our last lesson about Parvaar and body parts. We then started learning about various colors: laal, peela, neela, kaala, bhoora, safed etc, a few vegetables and also fruits (seb, naashpati, angoor, kharbooj).
In spoken Hindi, all kids got a chance to say their name, color of the shirt, jeans and shoes in complete Hindi sentences.
In our cultural session, we read a story about Rakhi and Mahatma Gandhi. The kids came up with a lot of interesting questions. I encourage all parents to read about Gandhi again. They will surprise you with all sorts of questions :)

Madhu Sanga | | | | | | | Namaste,
Today, in Hindi, we learned about our family/Parivaar. Many kids already knew about Daada/Daadi/Naana/Naani and they were very exited to tell us about their brothers and sisters as well. We covered pretty much all the relations listed in the parivaar page 10 of their folder. Some new vocabulary words that we introduced today:
- Bada, Chota, Parivaar, Savari(ride), baithna, khade hona.
We reviewed how to say your name in Hindi again which we learned last week.
In culture, we read a story about Ganesha's birth, made a nice bookmark, and did Ganesh pooja. They were all so exited about Prasaad in the end.
Just a quick reminder - please send a notebook and glue stick with your kids next weekend. | | | | |
