Review notes of Hindi Class on Oct. 3rd
Namaste:
The numbers / ginatee lesson was completed this week. We also reviewed the colors and body parts lessons by reading books and doing various activities.
For spoken Hindi we did verbs in the present tense.
The kids are doing really well.  In a matter of weeks their comfort level is up and the usage of Hindi in class is amazing to hear.  Thanks parents for all your hard work in practicing at home.
For homework:
1. Complete the Counting Exercise.
2. Practice counting in Hindi with your child.
If anyone has any questions please don't hesitate to email me.
Dhanyawad

Review notes of Hindi Class on Sept. 20
Namaste!!

Last week due to some glitch no one got my email that I am about to resend.
We started the class as usual with the prayer and OM Chanting.
The Body Parts lesson was taught to the kids.  We sang the Hindi version of Head, shoulder Knees and Toes.  Please complete the exercise as homework for next week.  We also reviewed the Parivaar lesson.
In Spoken Hindi we build on sentences and vocabulary.
Thanks to all the parents for volunteering.  You have been a great help!!  The kids did a wonderful job of presenting their family picture to the class.  Thanks parents for all your hard work.
Next week is Reetika's show and tell week.
Please make sure that all the previous and last week homework is completed.
Thanks!!

Hindi Class Review Notes -9/13/2009
Namaste,

Welcome to Gurukul.  I am excited to have your child in my class this year.  We are off to a great start.  With your encouragement, your child will be learning level 1 Hindi in no time.

We started the class teaching the children how to introduce themselves and greet in Hindi.  For example,  “Namaste, mera naam ----------- hai” and  “ Aap ka nam kya hai”.
After the introductions we did OM chanting and  prayer "Tumhee ho maataa".   This will be the norm for the class every week.
This week we discussed about the family (Parivaar ) as outlined on page 6 of the Gurukul binder.

We did several exercises to reinforce the family vocabulary namely drawing a family portrait and a family tree which most of the children presented and won stickers.

For the spoken Hindi session, we learnt simple constructs of Hindi sentences.  We performed a chain drill where each child said 'Namaste, mera naam ... hai'.   We played I spy where the child had to guess and say “ Yeh xyz hai”. Please practice with your children at home.

The class ended with the Indian National Anthem - "Jana Gana Mana"

Please send the following school supplies with your child in their bag with the Gurukul binder:
Notebook
Sharpened Pencils, Sharpeners & Erasers
Crayons
Fine tip and broad tip markers
Glue stick
Scissors
A4 size paper sheets or construction papers.
Folder which will be used for all class work and communication notices back and forth.

In addition, do not forget to send a healthy snack for your child.
The volunteering day will be your child’s show and tell turn.  Please allow the child to pick a small item or toy that they are passionate about to present to the class. Sonia Manhas will be volunteering on 9/20/2009 and Tara will have her turn for show and tell.  The signup sheet will once again be available this weekend for those who have yet to sign up.
If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to email me.
Regards,
Rachna
